How FollowScope Processes Your Data
100% Browser-Based
When you upload your Instagram export file, it is read and processed entirely within your web browser using JavaScript. The data is parsed, analyzed, and displayed without ever being sent to any server.
No Server Communication
FollowScope does not have a backend server for data processing. There is no API that receives your data. The website is a static application — once loaded, it operates entirely offline.
Local Storage Only
Snapshots for historical tracking are stored in your browser's localStorage. This data exists only on your device and is automatically cleared when you clear your browser data. We cannot access it.
No Credentials Needed
We never ask for your Instagram username, password, or any form of authentication. FollowScope works exclusively with the official data export that you download directly from Instagram.

What is the Official Instagram Data Export?
Instagram provides every user with the right to download their personal data. This is a feature built by Meta, available directly in your Instagram settings. Under data protection regulations like GDPR (Europe), CCPA (California), and similar laws worldwide, platforms are required to give you access to your data.
The export includes your followers list, following list, and other account data in a structured format (JSON or HTML). FollowScope reads only the connections data (followers and following) — it does not access your photos, messages, or any other personal content.
How to download your export:
- 1Open Instagram → Settings → Accounts Centre
- 2Your information and permissions → Download your information
- 3Select your Instagram account → Choose "Connections"
- 4Select JSON format → Create export
- 5Wait a few minutes, then download your file
